We planned this trip since the previous winter.
flank the mystical path of the "Santiago", though not as pilgrims, to tour the coast of northern Spain fascinated us immediately.
As usual we were worried at first to identify what places we visited and from there we began to draw roughly the route to then to determine the locations where search for Hotel.

The good news was that in Spain, for the same price, the hotels are much higher than those of French and Italian for comfort, both for cleaning and for the spaciousness of the rooms.
From this point of view then you could expect a more restrained spending.
With regard to food in Spain you eat too much meat and good (eg solomillo).
One of the habits of the Spaniards are the most delicious tapas, over slices of bread with everything from shellfish to solomillo Serrano ham etc. ... etc. ... Sometimes with tapas or small sandwiches filled with serrano ham, we also had dinner.
You will find, once in Spain, who travels with a couple of hours later than in Italy. No, no time difference, but the English have lunch around 13:00, around 20:00 in the square at the bar for a drink tapas and dinner is served at 22.00. Difficult to do before.
Our journey began with the first stage approach: Aix-en-Provence in southern France. About 500 km from Milan. Aix is \u200b\u200ba country colors of Provence. On the streets it is not difficult to meet a variety of artists (musicians, painters).

Day 2
Carcassonne. Town about 290 km from Aix. We have heard several times mainly because of its impressive castle and for being the best known town in the territory where they have been built so-called Cathar castles. Unfortunately, today we are mostly ruins, but the castle of Carcassonne is well preserved and worth the visit with a walk on the walls.
The medieval town is well worth a visit.
Wanting to start with confidence, even in anticipation of the kilometers ahead, we decided to spend the day and night in Carcassonne.
Day 3
You start for Spain, Pamplona next stage (500 km) through the pass of Roncesvalles is famous for the battle fought in 778 AD by Charlemagne. The site has no particular tourist found except for the first sign that indicated the missing km to Santiago de Compostela: 790 Km From here the famous Camino de Santiago in Spain.
In the afternoon we arrived in Pamplona and immediately we began to feel the atmosphere of Spain.

final stage Miranda de Ebro is the day where there was absolutely nothing but our hotel. Along the way we stopped at Puente de la Reina considered one of the most significant of the "Way" because crossroads where converge the two main routes of the Way. Along the main road connecting to Pamplona Puente are beginning to see the pilgrims on foot or by bike with their shells represent the journey along the path you create.
Stage Najera, caatterizzata a beautiful church inside the tombs of the Templars. In these villages is nice to walk, despite the heat, enjoying their city centers and admiring small old houses that make up the core.

Day 5
Depart for Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Even this place is visited by pilgrims stopping for a declaration on the "certificate" of the Way. The
town is typical but in fact, like the others, we do not lose too much time to turn the little old town.

Your next Burgos. Here are just waiting for a huge square and, after lunch, we went to visit the Duomo and the Old Town. The photos that the public are emblematic of the beauty of the town. Burgos will be our base for two nights.

Continuing our journey we came in first and then Fromista Villarcazar de Silva . Both sites are characterized by two very interesting churches outside. To Fromista internally has virtually nothing to see, that in addition to a more Villarcazar feature has built two beautiful Gothic tombs.
And here in Leon, a beautiful cathedral, beautiful buildings and a warm exaggerated. The town deserves a visit of several hours. Do not miss Gaudi's Casa Botines and the Real de San Isidoro.

Day 7
Astorga, a delightful little town famous for Gaudi's Bishops Palace. In addition to visiting the church.
After we reach Astorga Palacio de la Valduerna stay in a hotel where the Mexican style with an exclusive restaurant that surprised us quite a bit.
Day 8
Ponferrada a beautiful village with a church and a castle to visit, at least externally, is worth a visit. Inside you can visit it but do not expect rooms and frescos.
The day ends with a difference: a visit to Las Medullas. This is a place characterized by mounds of excavated soil in a gold mine used by the ancient Romans said World Heritage Site in 1997. To see. Here we ate in a "casa de comidas" to very good, very abundant and characteristic place where we ate local specialties.

The next stop is Santiago. Once in Santiago and parked the car we ventured in the wonderful streets of the old town churches and ancient buildings, but the real attraction of Santiago is its immense and wonderful Cathedral. Imposing mystique we have seen certainly the most beautiful and magnificent, but the Cathedral Santiago is unique. E 'veramanete unparalleled emotion.
In its place the pilgrims tired lie down and rest a little further and stand in line to receive the certificate confirming the fulfillment of the Way.
Santiago is a small town place to be walking in the streets with peace of mind even if packed with tourists and pilgrims with their songs and festaggiamenti make it particularly joyful.
Santiago is the crowning touch to a journey so long and tiring.
Hence, from this lovely town, part of our return. The turning point that will take us first to France and then home.
Now everything will change, the landscapes are mainly coastal, but also for the presence of Pico mountain in Europe, we'll still have some small group of pilgrims, but not as the first leg.
